80% of New Zealand blueberries are grown in the Waikato but for residents in the Wellington region there are a number of PYO blueberry farms near by.  Akatarawa Valley in Upper Hutt is a popular location with several blueberry farms on Akatarawa Road.  But a little further drive north will net you more reasonably priced berry picking if you don’t mind some extra time on the road.

There are two places that are well worth considering.  There is the Palmer Berry Farm just 1 km north of Greytown on 2466 State Highway 2.  Recently taken over by Leone and Truman, they grow ten different varieties of berries including blueberries, blackberries, boysenberries and raspberries.

Another good PYO blueberry choice is Noho Farm on State Highway 1 just north of Levin.  They only grow spray free blueberries, and have been operating in the region for many years, previously as Blueberry Art.  They provide some of the best value for money blueberries in the entire region.

Enjoy your pickings!
